Blockchain technology and gender equality

Blockchain technology is also trying to innovate on human rights issues in order to achieve greater gender equality.

Evaluating the number of investors in crypto there would be nothing to be optimistic since, according to research conducted by eToro, only 8.5 of investors are women. But obviously, this is the effect of an economic status quo that has nothing to do with the new technologies.

The distribution of wealth is not yet balanced, but much is being done to ensure that the technology is distributed in a balanced way even between genders.

Blockchain projects for gender equality

There have been many commendable initiatives on the subject, such as Code to Inspire, a non-profit association that opened a women’s programming school in Herat, Afghanistan.

The IBM blockchain development team is led by women for example. Elizabeth Stark was also very significative by offering scholarships worth $4,000 each for women who want to study DLT.

After all, there are already development groups mainly for women such as shEOS, which deals with improvements on Larimer’s blockchain, including the recent introduction of interoperability between EOS and ETH.

Meanwhile in China, the #metoo movement has managed to overcome the wall of censorship by uploading the stories of gender abuse on the blockchain, thus making them available to anyone.

The solution is not yet perfect because the government could close the website that allows registrations on the blockchain, but it’s still a first step towards freedom and equality even where these are strongly threatened.
