Trezor has warned its customers against scams that use fake wallets to steal cryptocurrencies.
There would be many individuals who sell copies of Trezor One, and then steal the virtual currencies that are deposited there.
The company claimed to be well aware of the presence of legitimate clones of its Trezor One, which are manufactured by other companies with different names, but it is the first time that the news spreads about this way of using copies to scam customers by stealing the tokens deposited on a fake hardware wallet.
“You would not entrust your money to somebody who has already cheated you by selling you a different product than you thought you were buying. We, therefore, recommend not to use this device and report it to us, which would help us fight these scams and provide you with a legitimate device.“
An essential element indicated by the company to avoid this scam and distinguish the original Trezor One from fake ones is the price that diverges very significantly due to unjustified discounts.
Another method is to look out for the anti-forgery hologram that always accompanies the original products and that is also presented in the activation video of the wallet. In addition, the company invites to contact official channels when purchasing the product, including of course the official Trezor website.
