Associated Press participating in the Civil blockchain project

Associated Press has announced its participation in the Civil blockchain project, a journalistic platform on distribuited ledger, making its contents available and allowing their sharing and legitimate use on the platform.

Civil is a blockchain platform which wants to help create an independent and sincere journalism. Their ICO is scheduled for September.

Remuneration for published news will depend on the votes received from the project participants, thus creating a system where the quality of the information generates its remuneration, but where the copyright on the articles can be protected using the blockchain.

Civil’s decentralized platform will enable:

  • the recognition of copyright;
  • the possibility of linking content to specific recipients by means of smart contracts;
  • the creation of a system that rewards ethical behaviour.

AP has always been very interested in new technologies and has for some time been taking into consideration the solutions offered by the new decentralised tools.

With this agreement it wants to offer a quality product to a wider public.

As Jim Kennedy, Vice President for Business Strategy and Development, says: “AP has been pushing into new digital territory for more than two decades, and Civil is opening up another new space with interesting technology to explore and a commitment to good journalism. We’re eager to help cultivate the space and demonstrate our value to a new set of digital publishers“.
