Sharing medical data with blockchain technology

A new tool for recording, exchanging and tracking sensitive medical data via the blockchain has been launched.

Grapevine World, in collaboration with Southampton University and Tiani Spirit, a Microsoft Azure management specialist, launches a new platform for data management based on blockchain services available through Azure.

This initiative will allow professionals to track the origin of medical data and thus to have very easy access to it, breaking down barriers that still exist today when it comes to safety and a widespread use.

The importance of the immutability and traceability of medical data, and therefore of its quality, is essential both for the implementation of a proper scientific study path and for the important legal implications that these data possess.

This pilot application aims to demonstrate how the blockchain structure can be compatible with the Interoperability Standards, i.e. the standards used in the medical world for data sharing and certification of origin.

The pilot project will be used to evaluate the clinical solutions that can be applied and, if necessary, to make changes to the platform. Several operators are involved, including a pharmaceutical company (now anonymous) which is among the 100 largest companies listed on Forbes.

Wernhard Berger, co-founder of Grapevine, explains possible business developments:

Following a successful pilot execution with our early adopter, we are excited to receive strong interest from multiple health and life science organisations to subsequently adopt our solution. Benefiting from Microsoft’s global reach and strong support from the interoperability community, we meet a growing market need and will together overcome the current limitations for achieving a truly connected healthcare community,“.
