An experimental European program for a privacy platform to menage data protection through blockchain and smart contract also starts in Italy.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), together with ten European partners, launches the PoSeID-On project, an innovative platform for managing privacy and digital identities, all through blockchain and smart contract.
The project was selected among 80 competitors in the “Cybersecurity PPP: Privacy, Data Protection, Digital Identities” competition and will lead to the creation of a privacy platform that will be able to guarantee the transportability of data, the right to access,the right to be forgotten and the restriction on the processing of data when requested by the user, all in compliance with the new European regulation for privacy, the GDPR.
There are four pilot studies in Europe and they will take place in France, Spain, Austria and Italy.
In Italy, however, the platform will be experimentally integrated within the NoiPA system, where it will be tested in the management of a large amount of personal data.
The use of blockchain and smart contracts on the one hand will ensure a very high degree of encryption and security of data privacy, on the other hand will allow users to manage in a conscious and autonomous decisions regarding their privacy, all without the presence of the so-called “middle man”, ie intermediate figures whose presence is likely to be an element of rupture of the system.
On the contrary, thanks to the smart contract, the execution of the end user’s wishes are automatic and direct.
PoseID-On will cost 3.050.605 euros of which 2.5 million are financed through European funds.
Among the participating institutions, in addition to the MEF, there will be Sogei, Accenture, PNO Innovation, the municipality of Santander and the University of Coimbra.
