Revolut card: a report on purchases in Italy

Revolut, the famous card and mobile app for online shopping and not only, has published a report on purchases in Italy for the first week of winter sales, comparing this period of shopping with the one during Christmas and Black Friday 2019.

According to the report published today (January 22nd, 2020), which analyzed the shopping habits of Italian customers – over 350 thousand people – it is possible to see how 30% of sales were made online, though this figure is 33% less than what was sold during the Black Friday of November 29th, 2019.

In the first week of sales, Revolut users spent over 2 million euros on shopping, both online and in traditional stores, quadrupling the amount spent last year during the same period.

29% of purchases (5% more than in 2019) were made online. This number is significantly higher than in other European markets such as the UK (14%), France (18%) and Spain (20%).

Overall, however, during this period Italians spent 33% less than during the Black Friday week, where the number of online purchases recorded was also higher – 31% – while the figure spent using Revolut card was over €3 million.

The amount of this first week of sales is not only lower with respect to the week of Black Friday but also compared to the seven days before Christmas, during which about 2.5 million euros were spent.

According to the report, Apple and AliExpress were the most popular online stores among Italian users both during Black Friday and the winter sales, while for Christmas the favourite online shops were Apple and Amazon.
