A study carried out by MyCrypto has shown that fake crypto giveaways on Twitter have increased by 95%.
Besides the fake Twitter profiles, the study involved the analysis of the various addresses of the wallets used to collect funds and the hosting of the websites featuring these fake giveaways.
Every day we can see how, especially under the Twitter posts of the most famous people active in the sector, there are various fake giveaways that offer easy crypto payouts.
MyCrypto has recovered the accounts of over 300 Twitter users with over 300 tweets and over 400 images. All the documentation can be found on the dedicated GitHub page.
The research also showed that the main cryptocurrencies involved in these fake giveaways are Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), while the websites on which giveaways are hosted are 64% in the United States, 11% in England and 9% in Canada.
In addition, 86% of the various Twitter accounts were created in July of 2019. There were 14 Ethereum (ETH) and 43 Bitcoin (BTC) addresses recovered, which allowed concluding that about 11 BTC and 42 ETH were stolen, for a total value of 150 thousand dollars at the current exchange rate.
As the author of the research himself said, as the interest in crypto increases there is also an increase in fake giveaways, indicating the fact that these scams are always ready to deceive the unfortunate, which is also the case with the fake giveaways of Libra and Calibra.
