BitTorrent File System: mainnet is online

Just a few hours ago Justin Sun, CEO of TRON and BitTorrent, announced on Twitter that the BitTorrent File System (BTFS) mainnet is now online.

The new protocol, which will be integrated into the famous BitTorrent, has been under testing for some time now and is now available to everyone. BTFS already boasts over 3000 new nodes, making the BitTorrent network even more scalable and decentralised in terms of storage.

Among the features of the BitTorrent File System, there is also the possibility to delete files and folders from local user nodes directly from the command line and to boot a BTFS node using a private key, seed via BIP39, or a dedicated seed phrase.

One of the advantages of this protocol is that it provides a decentralised system for controlling the servers and therefore has an advantage in terms of security and reliability, as interruptions or Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks can be avoided.

As stated in the press release, by the end of the year the BTT tokens will also be integrated, gradually, into the BitTorrent File System, providing a system of incentives to use the product and thus allow users to earn tokens.

The host (the user who will keep the files on their hard drive) will be guaranteed an incentive in BTT tokens. This has already been one of the functions available for the BitTorrent Speed program for several months, thus allowing to take advantage of the more than 100 million users of the BitTorrent network and thus spread BTFS in a more capillary and rapid manner.

The program can be found here and for the moment only the version for Windows is available, although a version for Mac and mobile is also expected to be released in the future.

Some time ago, Sun also revealed that this program will lead many users to interface with cryptocurrencies as everyone will have 10 BTT tokens in their wallet at the beginning.
