Lincoln Townley: 490 bitcoins (BTC) for 19 paintings

London-based artist Lincoln Townley, famous for his portraits of celebrities such as Kate Moss and David Bowie, has sold 19 of his works for 490 bitcoins (BTC) to a Singaporean investor, as reported by the British media.

The paintings in question are part of the “Greed Collection” and were purchased through a Swiss agent.

Townley is no stranger to bitcoin payments: in 2017 he had sold his piece of art, Homage to Francis Bacon, to a European collector for 40 bitcoins (BTC), one of the first transactions of this nature.

530 BTC are now worth over $6 million. As reported in a recent report, European investors diversify their investments not only with crypto but also with prestigious works of art.

Townley is certainly not the only artist to accept bitcoin payments for his works: in 2018 a painting by Andy Warhol was offered for sale by the London-based auction house Didiani Syndicate. The work, of which 49% was sold, was payable in ethereum or bitcoin, as well as in Maecenas’ very own token, ART.
