France: Banque Publique d’Investissement (BPI) invests in blockchain with Kleros

The French blockchain company Kleros announced yesterday that it had received investments from the Banque Publique d’Investissement (BPI) for $1 million.

Using these funds, Kleros wants to further develop its blockchain solution based on Ethereum. To do so, the company is creating a new initiative called Themis, a new division of Kleros that will take care of the development of some features necessary for the Layer 2 project to increase its use cases in both corporate and institutional environments.

The reason why Kleros has decided to develop a second layer of its blockchain is to ensure greater transparency for future applications and also greater scalability. Moreover, Themis is also developing a research program in both legal and crypto-economics in order to better resolve disputes. The latter, in fact, is Kleros’ largest use case to date.

The program, “Programme d’Investissements d’Avenir”, of the BPI consists of prizes amounting to several billion allocated to finance the development of technological projects and this seems to be the only one in the blockchain sphere.

Kleros was founded in 2017 and is also part of the Thomson Reuters incubator.

Blockchain in France

In addition to a number of important events that are often held in Paris, such as the Paris Blockchain Week Summit and the EthCC, France certainly isn’t standing by while blockchain technology is gaining ground.

Recently, for example, Keplerk announced plans to sell cards similar to phone top-ups to buy bitcoins in over 5200 shops in France.

In addition, thanks to an East2PlayPayment and EasyWallet initiative, over 25,000 shops in France will start accepting crypto payments in 2020, according to what Le Figarò reported some time ago.
