The Coronavirus token lands on the Ethereum blockchain

As is well known, a new type of virus, the 2019-nCoV, or Coronavirus, has taken hold in recent weeks and is causing both health and economic problems as a result of the quarantines in China preventing the spread of the virus. This situation has resulted in the creation of a new token “inspired” by the Coronavirus, with noir implications to say the least, born on the basis of the parameters of the world population and infected people.

In particular, it’s an ERC20 token, therefore based on the Ethereum blockchain and it is called Coronacoin (NCOV).

The idea was born on Reddit where all its operation is explained, such as the reason for such a large supply that reflects about the world population. Every 48 hours tokens will be burned according to the number of people infected or deaths caused by the virus.

It is amazing how the token itself is already operational and verifiable with a block explorer and that the token is even listed on CoinGecko. There is also already an exchange where you can trade the token for Ethereum (ETH).

Also, on the official website of the token, it is stated how it is possible to receive an airdrop using MetaMask as a wallet. The bright side of the story is that part of the funds will be donated to the Red Cross to help the association in this emergency.

Even if the whole thing seems to have a seemingly useful aspect, especially given the side concerning donations to the Red Cross, it is impossible not to notice how the idea is rather macabre and how it also seems to be an almost mere instrumentalization of a situation that is undoubtedly serious and that is causing thousands of sick and dead people all over the world.

Omitting the moral aspect, it is possible to observe how blockchain technology and the token system can adapt to any occasion.
