South Korean football arrives on Sorare

The South Korean K League has joined the fantasy football on blockchain created by the Sorare company.

The licensing agreement with the highest representation of Korean professional football will allow Sorare users to also play with the cards of the players of these football teams. K League is the first Asian league to join this blockchain initiative.

The digital collectables, which function as NFTs, will be available on Sorare starting today, June 18th. They can be used to build a fantasy football team and play with other teams to win tokens. It’s possible to play every week.

Other teams that are already part of Sorare are AS Roma, Betis Siviglia, SS Lazio, Atletico Madrid, Leverkusen, Porto and many others.

The company was founded in 2020 starting with the Italian Juventus team.

Nicolas Julia, CEO and founder of Sorare, explained:

“We’ve seen a growing interest for the K League among our community of Sorare managers, especially since football resumed there. Football in South Korea has been booming and we are proud to help fantasy managers engage with the players and their different clubs. This agreement is a key step in our vision to create a global fantasy football game”.

The Ethereum blockchain is used to create tokens so that they are collectable and scarce. These cards are sold on the platform even for $3,000.

Yeon Sang Cho, General Manager of K League, said:

“We are pleased to announce that K League will be participating in Sorare’s fantasy game using blockchain technology, one of the cores of the 4th Industrial Revolution, as we hope to provide our fans with more joy through the game. We ask for your continued interest and support for the K League as well as Sorare”.
