Animoca Brands has announced the upcoming launch of the Atari NFT Capsule Collection for the iconic video games Centipede and Pong.
The collection will include several rare digital collectibles, in multiple price ranges, available for purchase on Blockparty, OpenSea, Quidd and Harmony, and commemorates the pioneering video games that helped create the video game industry.
The first item will go on sale today, Tuesday, March 30th, 2021, at 7:00 PM ET (11:00 PM UTC), with the final auction ending on the evening of Friday, April 2nd.
Animoca Brands is a leading blockchain-based gaming company, and its subsidiary Quidd deals specifically with digital collectibles. Together with Blockparty, the artist-focused NFT marketplace, Harmony, a proof-of-stake blockchain with sharding, and OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace, they were able to create and offer for sale this collection of rare retro collectibles inspired by Atari games.
The NFTs in the Atari Capsule Collection
The NFTs in the Atari Capsule Collection will be issued on the Ethereum and Harmony blockchains, and the first two will be dedicated to two of Atari’s most important creators: Dona Bailey, the co-creator of Centipede and one of the first female programmers employed by Atari, and Al Alcorn, the creator of Pong.
Other digital items will also be made available at a later date in various price ranges.
Centipede is a 1981 arcade shooter game that became one of the most successful titles of its time. The NFTs on sale will be:
- Centipede Flagship (limited series with one NFT),
- Centipede Reality (limited series of three),
- Centipede Artist’s Rendition (limited series of ten),
- Centipede 2600 Classic cartridge (limited series of twenty).
Pong, on the other hand, dates all the way back to 1972 and is the ultimate arcade game, a true pillar of the video game industry.
The NFTs on sale will be:
- Pong Flagship (limited series with one NFT),
- Pong First Quarter Relic (limited series of three),
- Pong Artist’s Rendition (limited series of ten).
