MakerDAO: winners of the gaming tournament announced

Yesterday saw the announcement of the winners of the first gaming themed competition launched by MakerDAO last March. As many as 13,000 DAI as prize money for those who had created practical uses for this stablecoin had been put up for grabs.

The DAI Gaming Initiative has seen various developers compete in different macro-categories and with different prizes for each of these:

  • Best integration for the DSR (DAI Savings Rate), and thus integration between gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi), with a prize of 5000 DAI;
  • Best Player vs Player experience, i.e. a game involving 2 users against each other, with a 2500 DAI reward;
  • Best Player vs Evil experience, also with a 2500 DAI prize;
  • Best use of DAI, so the integration of DAI within a game already released, in this case, 2 prizes of 1500 DAI each.

The competition that has just ended is the category “Best use of DAI” and has seen the victory of 2 different games: Marble Cards and Battle DAO, which won 1500 DAI each.

Marble Cards and how does it work with DAI

As far as Marble Cards is concerned, this game aims to “carve in marble” the links of websites into collectable cards that are NFT (Non Fungible Tokens), i.e. completely unique tokens that can be exchanged, bought and collected by users.

After creating a card from a URL, it can no longer be used by another user to create the same card, so there can only be one card with a single address, precisely to avoid duplication and make them unique throughout the blockchain.

To date, over 400 cards are available on the marketplace and these are sold by the creators at incredible prices, for example the most expensive card is sold for 100,000 ETH, and represents an anime-themed meme.

In addition to the trading aspect of these cards, it is also possible to use them to fight in dedicated arenas, divided into categories (over 30), and to win crypto.

In this case, the DAI stablecoin has been added as a payment method for auctions in the marketplace; DAI is added as a payment method alongside ETH and MBC, which is the Marble Cards token, and can be used both to pay for auctions and to pay system fees.

Battle DAO

Moving on to Battle DAO: This game allows users to organize tournaments, set rules, pay entry fees and distribute pool prizes.

The system is managed in a trustless and transparent way: in fact, the blockchain and smart contracts can be used to control every transaction.

With this platform, it is possible to participate in tournaments of different games such as DOTA 2, Super Smash Bros Unlimited, Valorant, Sky Weaver and others, and to create tournaments by defining the start date, the type of game, the game mode and the prize pool for the participants.

The prize can be in ETH or DAI, but also in any other ERC20 token.

The 1500 DAI prize will be used by Battle DAO to create new tournaments and thus to attract more participants.

As mentioned, these are only two of the projects that have participated in the MakerDAO contest, but since the launch of the initiative other games have been created such as Battle Racers, League of Kingdoms and Decentral Games.
